I hate that I'm supposed to have a taste in music. Don't even mean this in an "I like all music" way I mean I just want to listen to the songs I like and not listen to the songs I don't like.
#there isn't really a genre or genres i like specifically#and there isn't really an artist i listen to or follow consistently#and i don't really understand being a fan of a music artist tbh. like i can buti'm just here for the music idgaf about the person.#most of the time when i say i like an artist i mean i listened to a few of their songs usually some of the more popular ones#i think the only artist who i listened to most songs of is tally hall#but they only have two albums so it's not a big feat#and also i don't know much at all about the members themselves#like. i hate it because i love music but can't i just stop at loving music.#do i have to commit this much instead of just listening to the stuff i like no strings attached#i know i can but i definitely feel like i'm not supposed to#lukas rants#hila has spoken

genuine question: why is genesis so low on ur topsters?
also, if you can: could i hear why hawaii: part ii is rated 3.5 on ur rateyourmusic? (as opposed to like. anything higher)
(p. s. your music inspires me to be the sincerest version of myself, and for that i thank you. the impact you've had on my life is unforgettable.)
genesis isn't rated low. my number one album of all time is genesis' "the lamb lies down on broadway", for about 16 years running. my topster is organized by relative colour, it's not perfect but it just looks nice!
—
when it comes to talking about music, what i like and like about it, almost 100% of the time i NEVER want to discourage people, talk down to artists, or claim my opinion as fact. the only time i will actively talk down about art is if it's purposefully harmful (see artists like: Tom Macdonald, etc).
with that said, music by miracle musical - and by extension tally hall - often does this thing where there are a handful of really impressive, well written songs that just blow me away. but then the rest of the album outside of those handful of songs are either just ok/catchy or don't interest me very much. the tally hall gang's highs are very high, and equally their lows are just sort of pace-killers for the albums.
it's dynamics like these that prevent me from liking some of my other albums for similar problems! i think albums like queen of misfits and glitter are bogged down by an absurd amount of boring filler that could have just been left out or reworked to be more interesting, it makes it hard to ever listen to those albums front to back. ironically i don't feel that way about fairytails, my 40-song long ass album, almost everything in it still feels rather purposeful to me. i listen to my own music a lot, and once i've finished a project i tend to try and listen to it and enjoy it from an audience perspective rather than an artist one.
while i'm on the topic, i don't necessarily agree with even rating hawaii pt. ii 3.5 because in the past few years i've completely lost interest in the idea of weighing albums by arbitrary scores. nowadays i like to just give 4-5's to albums i like and then ignore anything else. it doesn't really make sense to me to assign a number score to something with good faith, other than to show that score to other people. interfacing with art is not a black and white process. despite the so-called 3.5/5.0 score i gave hawaii pt. ii whenever that was, the reality is that record has influenced me and i've enjoyed it. honestly that's what matters the most. we can sit here and talk album dynamics, technicalities, compositional proficiency, lyric profundity, and """""consistency"""""" (which is a word music critics love to throw around without actually realizing what the fuck they're talking about) all day, but what matters the most is:
Did you like the music? (Yes/No)
Did it inspire you in some way? (Yes/No) [Optional]
Does it seek to do harm? (Yes/No)
Do you respect the efforts and goals of the artist? (Yes/No) [Should always be the inverse of Question 3; i.e; if you answer No to 3, then you should answer Yes to 4]
honestly if you answer yes, yes, no, yes, then it's a good album. i really don't care. not every piece of art has to push the envelope to new heights and be the most innovative thing in the world - i mean wouldn't that be extremely fatiguing and overwhelming? everyone wants to be a critic and tear down shit that doesn't click with them within the first viewing/listen these days, i don't know why, it's probably an ego thing, bred by the echo chambers in the corners of the internet. but a lot of music criticism can be COMPLETELY discarded in favour of "this just isn't for me", and a lot of people go leaps and bounds, doing mental gymnastics over internal compensations, to just avoid saying the dreaded phrase of "this just isn't for me".
trust me, i'm someone who has immense experience with tearing other people down to compensate for my internal insecurities, it happens extremely often which is why a lot of art criticism makes ZERO fucking sense. it's never about making meaningful commentary about anything, it's always just trying to justify in the format of a dissertation - the subjective experience of "this just isn't for me".
so. do i like hawaii pt. ii? yep. is it a perfect album? no. why did i rate it 3.5? probably because at the time i wanted someone somewhere to perceive me as Very Articulated and Well Educated In The Realm of Discussing Art In Front of Other People, in Order to Appear Superior in Intellect and Refined in Taste, Because I'm Insecure Just Like Everyone Else.

There comes a time once in every f-slur's life to make an intro post for this god forsaken hellsite.
Now is that time.
~~~
GREETINGS, TO EVERY FOOL WHO HAS MISTAKENLY STUMBLED UPON THIS TUMBLR PAGE!
(This is my sick ass and very cool intro post!!)
SOME MAY CALL ME A MAD SCIENTIST, OR A "RINGMASTER-TYPE," BUT MOST THINK OF ME AS SOME SORT OF WEIRDO WHO THINKS THAT BILL CIPHER IS "SO ME FR" AND TYPES LIKE THAT FOR FUNZIES IN HER INTRO POST SO SHE LOOKS COOL.
(The last one is true, I'm truly a nerd trying to impress you all so you stick around and like me. In all honesty I'm just a kid who wants to be both Bill Cipher and also a vampire. I wanna bring a real Will-Woodian vibe to your function [aka your dashboard.])
Spectacle I’m crawling into your ask box to ask you:
What is your favorite style of music?
rubs my little paws together heheheheheheheheeeeee
A shorter answer would be what don't I like? Which would be country, mainstream rap, mainstream pop, and basically anything from a record label lol (sorry to say it but there is no soul in mainstream music! I can tell from the first 5 seconds that it's made either by 17 writers who never get credited or only for marketing and money!!!)
BUT my favorite is a bit of a long answer so first! I like metal, heavy metal, and rock as a starter! So bands like TOOL, System of a Down, my dad introduced me to Mudvayne recently and I really like Fall Into Sleep!
A good demonstration of my music taste would also be an artist called Baby Bugs, who's made very metal and angry songs (babymetal! I think that's the genre) but also on the other side of the river has made very soft and sad songs, my favorites of hers are Sinaholic (a more metal song) and Little Jars of Blood (a very soft song)
I also LOVE Tally Hall! It's hard to pick a favorite from them haha
Oh! Liana Flores too! Rises the Moon helps me fall asleep and Try Again Tomorrow too.
I like rap too! Namely Chris Webby and Ekoh (not Webby's political stuff though, those ones make me overthink and have Bad Thoughts)
OH OH!!! Little Stranger!!!!! I've had their Buddha The Beast album on repeat, and also Trip Around Saturn! I love their groovy and funky style!!! My favorite Little Stranger song has to be Bag Full of Money
Most recently, I've gotten into Will Wood, I've been meaning to listen to more of his songs but for now I've got Laplace's Angel, 2econd 2ight 2eer, and Outliars and Hyppocrates: a fun fact about apples on repeat (I think I'm going to annoy my family with how many times I'll loop it when I'm driving haha)
And despite every genre and artist I've listed, I feel like I'm forgetting one or two
#spectator not spectating#HI OSCAR um#yeah that's a bit of a loaded question THANKS FOR LETTING ME RAMBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@vostokmcclellan you have no clue what you have just unleashed within me. You reap what you sow. You have asked, and you shall DEFINITELY receive
Intoduction to C,honny jash 🔥🔥🔥 (no way fire... like from *gets shot)
CLAPS HANDS TOGETHER OKAY. OKAY. so chonny jash is this really cool singer guy song cover man on YouTube he makes some really good goddamn music and if you like tally hall, will wood, lemon demon (all other alternative/indie music creators and bands) then you MIGHT like him.
I think his most popular work/the work that gets most people invested into his music in the first place would be his album CCCC (chonny’s charming chaos compendium) which is a cover album consisting of songs that were originally from tally hall before jash took the lyrics and the music and like. Molded it to fit his ocs. That’s the best way I can describe it.
The three main characters of this album would be Heart, Mind, and Soul, and people (including me) GO ABSOLUTELY NUTS OVER THEM jash’s writing and singing and like general music skills are so good if you want to get into this album I’d seriously consider checking out his mind electric video first (the twelve minute one, it has 3 songs in total and they all do a pretty good job of introducing all three characters respectively).
Not only is the music like REALLY FUCKING GOOD the entire. Differentiation between sepereate characters based off of jash's artistic skills thing + motifs/symbolism for each one is extremely well thought out and the relationships between the three of these guys are CRAZY and TOXIC and RIVETING and bottom line SUPER GODDAMN RELATABLE to the vast majority of those in his audience. I would definitely recommend it if you enjoy concept albums/piecing together a story based off of several songs for me it was certainly an arduous process but BOY was it rewarding.
The lore/message itself is mostly up to listener interpretation but I personally like to think of that album as being centered around how valuable self acceptance is, how important communication and understanding and empathy is in a relationship, learning to break free from the bars that society cages one within, and just general dealings/causations of psychological turmoil. I think that what I like the MOST about CCCC tho is how lax/free you can be with your interpretations. it allows a LOT of space for creative liberty and overall message variation, and I like that. I like that very much.
OH and if you enjoy witty lyricism/enjoy having a bunch of allusions that you can rabbit-hole yourself into then you’ll probably like chonny jash . His stuff is like a puzzle but in video/music form. Anyway chonny jash changed my life I think everybody should listen to and look at the lyrics of one of his songs at least once in their life this shit is so good
Tergun 🤤
AND . AND TRIGUN. TRIGUN ISN’T A VIDEO GAME it’S a space western anime. Well OKAY it was originally a manga from the 90s that got adapted into an anime in the late 90s and then ANOTHER newer anime in 2023 so it’s actually just a broad term for these 3 pieces of media .
This is very general btw and while all adaptations go about it in different ways all of them center around the same plot; humans completely NERFED earth so they sent out these ships in order to find another habitable planet, and this mission is called “project seeds”. Aboard these ships are a bunch of humans put into cold sleep but OBVIOUSLY they can’t survive without resources, so alongside the cold sleep people are these human-made organisms called “Plants” who produce the necessities + more that humans need to survive.
Still with me? Ok So everything’s all fine and dandy, but then suddenly due to an event that I cannot disclose because of spoiler related reasons these ships CRASH on a deserted sandy desolate planet, and the remaining humans are then forced to survive solely off of the remaining plants (since all the technology from the spacefaring age was lost in the crash).
Now that the worldbuilding stuff’s outta the way, the main character is this dude named Vash the Stampede who is constantly being chased and hunted down because of this CRAZY bounty he’s got on his head and this is where . The main themes of Trigun start to shine through. It’s about morality and the lives of other people, about the cycles of abuse that lead to why people do certain things and it dives quite deep into the psychological and philosophical aspects ESPECIALLY since this is like a “kill or be killed” world and the main character ALWAYS chooses NOT to kill, no matter what.
I started out with watching the newest adaptation (Trigun stampede) but there’s no right or wrong order to consume the three medias, so start with whichever one you’d like ,,,, assuming you do want to start watching it, anyway.
Judging from what little i know about ur interests, I think trigun would be more up your alley BUT ALSO chonny jash is so good ESPECIALLY CCCC AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU ENJOY A SMALLER AMOUNT OF CHARACTERS COUGH COUGH COUGH but it's ultimately up to you, this is all assuming you'd wanna delve into anything in the first place. anyway yeah rant over . 👍
#runny’s rants#I know this is an f451 acc but bear with me here#the brainrot has hit#me spewing my twisted gospel#these are (somewhat) old-ish hpfxs btw so if I got some things wrong I apologize#cough#stinkygirldays pee you!!!!!!! 😡#unshowered#I love acting like I know what I’m talking about#yapathon#kinda copied my friend at the trigun part I was having somewhat of a hard time remembering I am a#fake fan
ignore this let me rant about my surge playlist because i really love it
I LOVE THIS PLAYLIST SO MUCH IS SUCH A BANGER PLAYLIST I NEED TO PAINSTAKINGLY EXPLAIN TO YOU WHY I PUT EACH SONG ON IT EVEN IF ITS OBVIOUS
1. PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN QUEEF JERKY, ethan is online
i dont think this majorly fits surge's character (other than the lady gaga meat dress part) but i think she'd probably do covers of queef jerky in universe (provided her life wasnt the way it is)
2. The Mind Electric Miracle Musical
i really love tally hall/miracle musical so um. dont be surprised to find them in a playlist of mine made after i started listening to them. the most commonly accepted theory is that its about someone being given electro shock therapy until they die/lose their mind, which (sort of) fits surge's story!!!
3. Modify Lemon Demon
the song is about extreme body mods. which kinda fits surge i guess.
4. Amnesia Was Her Name Lemon Demon
SHE DOESNT KNOW WHO SHE USED TO BE 🗣️‼️ SHE FORGOT 🗣️‼️
5. People Eater Sodikken
i think this song is meant to be about an abusive relationship??? it only very loosely fits but its a banger and i cant remove it
6. Fighter Jack Stauber
i dont think this song majorly fits either honestly but it can fit if you make it fit
7. ...Because I'm Young Arrogant And Hate Everything You Stand For Machine Girl
i cant hear most of the lyrics theyre screamed BUT I THINK SHE'D LIKE IT!!! also from what i can make out, it does fit
8. Ghost Machine Girl
this song's instrumental so it's entirely just 'well i think she'd listen to it and its a good song'
9. & Tally Hall
this song's about duality which doesnt majorly fit surge but absolutely sounds like something she'd listen to. also, later on in the playlist, there's A Lady which i added 2 months later which is a follow up of &.
10. Turn the Lights Off Tally Hall
urrrr it's about puberty and she's a teenager urrrr ummm
11. Doku Hakushi Hasegawa
this song barely fits BUT it sounds like something she'd like :D
12. SR20DET Blksmiith
instrumental but you CANNOT tell me she doesnt like breakcore and jungle
13. AM FM Vertigoaway
see above
14. Palmtree Panic - "B" Mix SEGA SOUND TEAM
ok so first of all this song actually is from sonic and second of all it sounds like trying to smile while wanting to scream which ig fits
15. Metallic Madness - "P" Mix SEGA SOUND TEAM
again, this is actually from sonic and also it sounds like something vaguely relating to surge
16. Oh Klahoma Jack Stauber
this song is about someone whose friend has social anxiety and they're trying to help them become social, which hurts not only the friend but the narrator themself. while not fully accurate, i could very easily imagine surge as the narrator and kit as the friend
17. Dead Weight Jack Stauber
similarly to oh klahoma, this is about someone who wants to be social but is unsure how. it doesnt really relate to surge but screw you jack stauber is a wonderful artist
18. The Dragon Game A Loud Scream SEGA SOUND TEAM
see 12, however with the addition of 'also its sonic team'
19. icosa Oliver Buckland
WOOHOO YIPPEE ENA!!!! (this song isnt FROM ena, but plays in auction day)
20. anemoia Oliver Buckland
ENAAAAAAAAAAA IM SO EXCITED FOR DREAM BBQ
21. God Race (Temptaion Stairway) Metaroom
ENA AND METAROOM ENA AND METAROOM ENA AND METAROOM
22. Kitty City Cyriak Harris
the animation to go with this has nothing to do with surge but i think the music gives surge vibes! ALSO its instrumental so you cant dispute that
23. Scrap Brain Zone Masato Nakamura
scrap brain zone, both as a song and as a stage, absolutely gives surge vibes. in sonic 1, im pretty sure every stage other than sbz and final zone has some form of natural element, and at the very least has happy sounding music. i also slightly associate scrap brain zone with overwhelming misery, due to the way it sounds, the name and also because when i first played sonic 1 i was stuck on it for ages omg
24. Unused Song (Sonic 2) Masato Nakamura
something about this song, including the fact it wasnt used, feels incredibly mysterious, which i mean you can link mystery to surge in a lot of ways
25. FAMILY GUY QUEEF JERKY, ethan is online
similar to the first one except its only 'i think surge would like queef jerky'. i dont know how you link this song to anything other than family guy.
26. A Lady Tally Hall
i think this surge vaguely fits surge and for some reason i cant help but picture this with surgamy. i mostly added it tho because i got mildly obsessed with it and had an excuse to add it seeing as & is in the playlist earlier
#sonic#surge the tenrec#my playlists!!!#(i dont typically make character playlists but i might in the future)#Spotify
PRELIMINARY ROUND A - Match 2
This is a nomination round. The top songs across ALL preliminary round polls will become our 64 competitors in Round 1.
Note: It’s about the song, not the recording. The artists/specific tracks provided are either the original, most popular, or suggested by a submitter. If you prefer a different version, a cover of the song, you like the song but not the artist etc, don’t let that deter you.
Youtube videos of all songs & submitter notes are under the cut.
Angel - The Weeknd
angel is like peak 2015 production around the ending but its also gorgeous lyrically
youtube
Dinosaurs in Love - Fenn Rosenthal feat. Tom Rosenthal
youtube
Hidden in the Sand - Tally Hall
listen! I know it can be interpreted as a break up song! I think that its a love song! its so beutiful and i love it! for me it feels like the trope of "thinks the love is unreqented but it actualy is!" or it might just be fully unrequiented but either way ITS WONDERFUL!!!
youtube
Kiss You - One Direction
youtube
Nonsense - Sabrina Carpenter
youtube
The Only Exception - Paramore
Very personal to me, and honestly just so... right to me, I guess. I dunno. It's just right.
youtube
So This Is Love - Cinderella (Disney)
youtube
Things We Said Today - The Beatles
THE VIBES
youtube
Wonderwall - Oasis
This literally isn’t for the meme of “anyway here’s wonderwall” this song makes me cry. “I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now” “maybe you’re gonna be the one who saves me” it’s a love song for someone who feels they need to be redeemed to someone who feels the same way.
You Make My Dreams - Hall & Oates
2) A song you didn't expect to see in your top 10
I did NOT listen to the Cure Flora edition of the second Go Princess Precure end theme THAT many times, I really didn’t. There were maybe 1-3 days in like January where I decided to relisten to all the four versions of that end theme once or twice, that should NOT qualify for this.
8) Longest song
2013 medley of Precure opening themes. (I don’t think I listened to that more than a few times either, seriously why is my youtube wrapped so much less accurate this year)
9) Favorite lyrics of your #1 song
“Won’t you come and find what you’ll leave behind, be it tenderness or destiny or you” is a HECK of one 👏👏👏👏👏
I am also quite fond of “Be not afraid, come dance away” and “Secrets are waiting and dreams lie awake in the wood”.
12) A song you feel should be higher up
Honestly, I definitely listened to Orange (apparently from Your Lie In April, which admittedly I haven’t watched I just stumbled upon this song in my youtube feed) enough for it to be considerably higher than 83.
…Actually do songs that aren’t even ON the playlist that I feel like should be there count, because there’s legitimately enough that I may just make a whole separate playlist that’s like “2024 recap but accurate”
13) The song with the most peculiar sound (to you)
I think probably the one with sound sticking out in an unusual way the most is either Russian Roulette by Porter Robinson, good old Ruler of Everything by Tally Hall, or good old Saint Bernard by Lincoln Lincoln.
14) A song you think is underrated
I’m gonna say Please Don’t Make Me Choose by Amanda Fagan, even though it’s one of the ones I’m most confused by as it got on here with an animatic I watched literally all of one and a half times and didn’t even LIKE, just because seriously I do NOT hear people in the dsmp fandom talk about Amanda Fagan enough.
16) A song everyone should know
Jubyphonic’s extra spooky version of Spooky Scary Skeletons.
19) Is the most streamed song by your favorite artist your favorite of them?
…I’m going to assume this means the highest-placed song by the artist who got placed top of my top 5. I Hate It Here is NOT my favorite Taylor Swift song (that honor goes to Long Live) but it is one of my favorites off specifically The Tortured Poets Department for sure.
22) Shortest song
An Aromantic Cupid by Ros Mo.
24) A song that could be the soundtrack of a movie
Itte, or Say It, by Yorushika, though I only have the english covers by Rachie and Jubyphonic on here (either or both of those could work for this).
25) Favorite lyrics of your #100 song
And we know it’s never simple, never easy Never a clean break, no one here to save me You’re the only thing I know like the back of my hand
Confessions of a Recovering Genrephobic 4/13/24
Hey Whores, I gave my two weeks this week!
So I'm really happy, not really sure where we go from here but I'm just enjoying the rush so lets get into some music.
Little Homes (2016) - FEiN
Genre: Indie Pop, Rock Length: 63:00 (16 Tracks)
FEiN an indie pop duo who have only released one album to date.
Feeling a bit like The Neighborhood or Artic Monkeys by way of tally hall FEiN is a band that feels both famalier and complex
and yeah I don't have a lot deep to say about this. Do you like Indie Rock music like the acts I just mentioned???? Then your'll like this.
3/5
Fresh Meat (2017) - Ayesha Erotica
Genre: Hyperpop Length: 30:37 (14 Songs)
I don't know how to tell you this but I don't think this album exists?
So according to the Ayesha Erotica WIkipedia, (the Ayeshapedia for those in the know), this album was planned to be released but was scrapped in 2017 for unknown reasons.
However in 2022, somebody uploaded a full album tracklist to spotify. This is where it gets crazy. Is that at some point it appears that Ayesha Erotica took all of her music offline and that people (whether fans or grifters), have been ripping her music, to spotify, bandcamp, soundcloud. Who even knows right.
Theres like at least 5 different Ayesha Erotica pages on spotify all with like different uploads of her music. But as for as I can tell from the Ayesha Erotica Subreddit the album I listened to does seem to be a semi-legit complition of the album. She is the licensing holder for the account and so forth. The Ayeshapedia has not official canonizized the tracklisting but it seems fairly legit based on there forensic construction of the proposed album.
Also I just realized I've already put in 5000s words into this review and most of you bitches don't even know who she is.
Branding herself as the 'number one crackwhore' and 'for the girls and the gays thats it', Ayesha Erotica brings a manic slut energy to the world of Hyperpop. PITK, (people in the know), are informing me that her style encompesis a lot of very specific eletro genres that I'm too uncultered to get but understand that when I say Hyperpop. I'm discussing the style of aggresive electronic dance music that incorpurates Y2K and McBling aestetics. You may have also heard of Bimbocore or Slut Pop? you get it girlies.
Ayesha Erotica is basically like if Britney Spears and Paris Hilton scissored on top of a mountain of cocaine and razor flip phones. Its aggresive, Tasteless, Overtly Sexual, and honestly a blast and there are also a lot of people that got major beef with Miss Ayesha Nicole Smith.
I honestly don't want to get into her many many controversies and parse what any of the accusations mean but just ask yourself this question. Are you the type of person whose going to vibe with this bimbo crackwhore drag persona or is that too much for you. Its ok if it is but I will honestly always kinda be a stan.
NOTE: I understand that AE is a controversal artist and I'm happy to hear your thoughts on the subject but I do ask that you be civil on my posts.
Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life (2018) - The Wombats.
Genre: Pop Rock Length: 38:43 (11 Tracks)
Honestly I don't have much to say about this.
Do you like The Wombats? This is a Wombat Album
3/5
Supernatural (1999) - Santana
Genre: Latin Rock (apparently the term is controversal??? I guess call me a fascist in the comments. I get my information from wikipedia) Length: 74:59 (13 Tracks)
Part of the Jam Bands of the 90s. Santana is a american rock band led by hispanic guitarist Carlos Santana. This album is one of the best selling albums of all time. Also you have heard some of these songs you definetly have heard smooth. \/
Mixing Psychedelic Rock with Jazz influences and there signiture 'Latin and African polyrhythms', (as the NYT puts it), Supernatural is a very complex sound that feels completly lived in.
There is something delictable about it and honestly I'm not knowledgable enough about music to really break it down. Because there are elements I can draw from it. Labels I can apply but that is one piece in a more complex whole.
Regardless I can understand why this album is on critics top lists and is a favorite of everyones stoner dad. God do I have to listen to phish for this challenge? cause honestly I'm kinda scared.
The Azoff Family: A Case Study on one of the Music Industry’s Most Connected Families
(ft. a breakdown of the Grammy voting process and problems)
This is very long so I will try and split it up into categories for everyone (sorry I got carried away- I spent like 2 hours writing this) but enjoy!
*Disclaimer: I want to preface while the majority of this is based in research, some parts may be speculation. I don’t know the family personally so I can’t tell you what goes on behind closed doors but I can tell you how parts of the entertainment/music industry work. I’ve had 5 internships in the industry (one in marketing at one of the big record labels) and the rest of my work is publicity (what I enjoy) and events and a former advisor used to run in the same circles as Irving Azoff (and he spilled some tea last year) I’m not out here to diminish the hard work of any artists or their teams, I’m simply here to showcase parts of the industry that aren’t always shown.*
Please also see: Story Time: How Fan Pages Directly Impact Columbia Records Decisions and Harry Styles Image
IRVING AZOFF: NEVER STOP THE GRIND
Let’s begin with the great business man himself Mr. Irving Azoff Irving Azoff is the literal posture child for connections and power in the music industry (he was also inducted into the 2020 rock and roll hall of fame class which is like a huge fucking deal for a manager to be inducted so you know he's the real deal)
In conclusion, I love Irving Azoff and his drive.
Irving Azoff: Early Years Run Down:
He came up middle class (dad was a pharmacist, mom a bookkeeper) in Danville, Illinois
He dropped out of college to run a small Midwestern concert-booking empire and managed local acts in the era
Opportunity came knocking and he got the chance to manage the Eagles and the rest is history
He's one of the best negotiators and has negotiated business on behalf of stars like Stevie Nicks, the Eagles, and Jimmy Buffet
Azoff has been an incredible manager and his drive to always advocate for his clients while basically not giving two sh*ts about what people think of him has gotten him the incredible reputation he has today.
All of Irving Azoff’s Major Job Positions:
Former President MCA (major label)
Former CEO of Ticketmaster and executive chairman of Live Nation Entertainment, the behemoth formed from Ticketmaster’s merger with Live Nation.
In 2013 he and Cablevision Systems Corp. CEO and New York Knicks owner James Dolan formed a partnership, Azoff MSG Entertainment (Currently still CEO)
----> Azoff also ran the Forum in Inglewood under Azoff MSG Entertainment after MSG purchased it in 2012 (it was sold in 2020 to the owner of the Clippers) — why do you think Harry played the forum for the Fine Line show? Azoff connection
Azoff MSG Entertainment encompasses all of the other companies including Full Stop Management, Global Music Rights (performance-rights org), and the Oak View Group (arena developing company)
He also is the co-founder and manager of the lobbying group Music Artists Coalition, a group that helps lobby for artists-rights issues such as royalty rates, copyright issue and healthcare insurance (see he's not all bad)
Essentially what I'm getting at is this man knows anybody who's anybody. He's the man you want on your team to help promote your music, plan your tour, and get you on that Grammy nom list.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
JEFFREY AZOFF: THE CHILD OF NEPOTISM
So for those of you that don't know, Jeffery Azoff is Harry's current manager and the son of Irving Azoff (the third of four kids). He's currently a partner at Full Stop Management, the company owned by Irving and the one artists such as Harry, Haim, the Eagles, Kings of Leon, and Meghan Trainer are signed to.
Jeffrey graduated from the University of Colorado's Leeds School of Business and started working fresh out of college at his father's old Management company (Frontline Management) working under Maroon 5's manager Jordan Feldstein (the only way you get that kind of internship/job as a 21 year old fresh out of college is if your family or family friends gives it to you). He worked here for 5 years.
Direct Quote from Irving Azoff to Jeffrey (really tells you a lot): "Listen carefully, because I’m going to say this one time. You have a phone and you have my last name. If you can’t figure it out, you’re not my son."
After working for his father, Jeffrey moved on to the talent agency CAA (Creative Artist Agency) where he worked for roughly 3 and half years before joining his dad in forming Full Stop Management in 2016.
While he was at CAA, Irving moved over clients like Christina Aguilera and the Eagles to the talent agency to help with tour booking instead of doing it internally through LiveNation (he was CEO).
Even though I'm sure Jeff has had to work somewhat hard to get to where he is (or at least to mess up his dad's work as he doesn't seem like the type to take laziness well), the door into the industry and every job was basically handed to him on a silver platter.
Not to mention if you watch episodes of keeping up with the kardashians (like myself) you can actually see Jeff hanging out with kendall and the rest of the fam at their Palm Springs house (you know you're a nepotism kid if you have an in with the Kardashian crew). Invite me next time Jeffrey!!!
Think of the Azoff's as the mafia family of the music industry, you don't mess with the mafia
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE GRAMMY AWARDS: STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS ON STEROIDS
Ok so here's where we’re going to get into a bit more of the speculation/grey area. I don't need to tell you that award shows are corrupt (See the Golden Globes Emily in Paris scandal) and the Grammys are not an exception. Think of the Grammys as one big student council/government elections where despite the fact the teachers tell you six times to vote for the best candidate, you're still going to vote for your friends even if they aren't the best.
A simplified break-down of Grammy voting:
1) Recording Academy voting members (artists, producers, musicians- anyone involved first hand with the creation of music; All voting members must have been producers, performers or engineers on six or more tracks of a commercially released album (or 12 or more digital tracks) and record labels will submit nominations in various categories to the grammys (songs need to be released commercially between October 1 of the previous year and September 30th of this year). You can also become a voting member by either winning a grammy or being endorsed by a current voting member (hint hint)
2) Once received, the recording academy with have the academy of trustees and its reviewers organize them and approve any changes to the 30 categories/fields (aka they can add new categories or remove old ones; so no best ukulele album of the year -- this is where things get funky)
There's speculation that during this stage when these special groups of 8-10 people are organizing genres, there's an "unwritten rule" that you need to be careful what album you green light (especially for famous artists) if you don't want them to win) (Rob Kenner said this- he used to be on one of these committees). Famous people tend to get more votes from clueless or lay Academy members that don't know the specialized categories or don't care enough to listen to songs that aren't radio trending.
3) After the nominations occur, Voting members begin their first voting. Members can vote for the four general categories of record of the year, album of the year, song of the year and best new artist and a maximum of 15 categories, all within their areas of expertise. Now the interesting thing is that while these are the guidelines there is literally nothing stopping them from voting in whatever categories they want (i.g. a rapper voting in the opera category despite not listening to opera). Theses ballots are all tallied and the top 20 entries are determined in each category (funky moment #2)
In 12 of the 84 categories those top 20 go to the ballot and it's done; for the rest it’s not like that. 59 categories including the big four go to a "nomination review committees" (identities are protected so they can't get lobbied... sure) who take a look at the top 20 and narrow it down to 7 or 8. (these are the special committees the Weekend talked about when he was snubbed). They're supposed to choose the nominees "based solely on the artistic and technical merits of the eligible recordings" which lets be real if that was the case Watermelon Sugar (along with most of the others in the category) I don't think would have been nomimated as they are very generic pop (none of them are special... sorry to the WM lovers out there).
This committee is basically held to THE HONOR CODE SYSTEM... I mean tell me when the last time the honor code system worked in literally any scenario (literally wtf). Don't take my word for it though the former CEO of the Academy Deborah Dugan (a queen) filed a complaint against the Recording Academy basically claiming that the nomination review process was rigged (she was fired after 5 months on the job).
Quote from Deborah Dugan "Members of the board [of trustees] and the secret committees chose artists with whom they have personal or business relationships... It is not unusual for artists who have relationships with Board members and who ranked at the bottom of the initial 20-artist list to end up receiving nominations."
These review committees can also exploit there power by adding up to two nominees that don't appear on the top 20 list to the final voting ballot (except in the 4 big categories - which watermelon sugar that one wasn't nominated for)
They also have craft committees for like non performance stuff (like album notes, engineering and arranging) that don't even get voted on by the academy voting members
4) After all of that fucked up mess, the grammy's decided is ok, the ballots go back to the voting members for the final vote. Deloitte (an accounting firm) then counts all of them, seals them in envelopes, and delivers them to the Grammy award show.
** The Grammy's just announced this year they're removing the "secret committees" so let's see how things shift in the next couple of years**
So obviously I'm not saying this to discredit Harry's nomination or his win as Fine Line was in the US top 20 albums for the majority of 2020, however, we must acknowledge privilege. Harry has a big name to him and a huge following, and while all of that shouldn't be taken into account, it does. He also has the Azoffs, a very well connected family with friends in lots of places that would be able to put in a good word here and there to get support behind Harry. Harry won best pop solo performance for Watermelon Sugar in a category with Doja Cat, Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and Dua Lipa. Look at the names there, the songs (ya'll can try and remember them cause I'm too lazy to write it out) and tell me that those top names with all of the music produced didn't get there through some connections.
Do with all this information what you will and if you are interested in learning more about the entertainment industry on your own Endeavor (owners of WME, a big talent agency like CAA) is hosting a free online program called the Excellence Program to help guide the future generation of industry executives. The program is a-synchronous and starts on July 12th. Highly recommend giving it a go if you're interested!!!
Alright ya'll that's it. Feel free to message me with your thoughts!
Julian Bashir Playlist Time!!
Apple Music playlist (if you're a heathen and subscribe to apple music like me) here
I know that there's plenty of people making playlists, but I really feel like this is an under-utilized brand of fan content. Instead of attempting to create a list of songs that Julian would listen to, or a playlist of songs which were all lyrically directly applicable (though there certainly some of those in here) regardless of genre, I tried to create something which captured, above all, his vibes instead, by choosing songs that balance at least somewhat relevant lyrical content with the energy or feel that I associate with the character. What it means matters, but not as much as how it makes you feel. That said, I signed up for apple music and read a TON of those overwrought iTunes store album review descriptions while I was making this, so I have a whole lot to say about all my choices here. In depth explanation of my symbolism and methodology behind each song under the keep reading. (I love tumblr. I want to write 1,000 words of analysis about why I picked songs to represent Julian Bashir and some of you are gonna read it. This is where I get to pretend to be one of those iTunes music writers. I feel joy.)
Good Morning - Two Door Cinema Club TDCC's Gameshow is high on my favorite albums of all time list for nebulous reasons I myself don't really understand. It was this album, though not this song (but one that will pop up later) that actually inspired me to make this playlist to begin with, as for some reason, from the color scheme of the album cover, to the overall vibe, to the ever-present references to illness, injury, surgery and healers in the lyrics, the whole thing feels inescapably Julian to me. And with an opening like I'm a sinner/I'm the victim/I'm an alien when I'm myself/I'm a healer/I'm a fixer/I'm a present danger to my health/I'm so strong/Doing what I'm supposed to do/ There's something wrong/With somebody like me, it's hard NOT to think about Julian when you hear this song, and I can't think of a better way to start this off.
Sweater Weather - The Neighbourhood I think there's a joke somewhere about bisexual people all liking Sweater Weather, and yeah, I resemble that remark. Sweater Weather is just good. You'll notice there's a sort of chill-indie-alt-electronic thing going here, and that is very much the vibe I'm sticking with. Sweater Weather slots in beautifully, both sonically and thematically. As the singer looks to warm and protect the person he's with from the cold, you can't help but feel a loving coziness coming off of this one. It always makes me feel cozy, at least, so it's here.
Gooey - Glass Animals I have nothing to analyze here because the artists themselves have said that the lyrics of this song have no meaning, they're just meant to capture a vibe, and capture it they do. Close your eyes and ride the vibes of this one. The energy is right, I love it, it belongs here.
Blue - Mika I could probably write a couple hundred words on Blue alone, in any context. This might be my beloved Mika's magnum Opus. Opening the song with the inherently counterintuitive lyric Blue is a feminine color, Mika manages to pack it ALL into this 3 minute song: questions about gender; concepts of sadness, joy, and their intersections; of the perception of melancholy as a flaw and loving people despite, or maybe because of, those "flaws" and anything else about them; a powerful first person reassurance that made me start weeping in my car the first time I heard it; just the phrase "why are humans cruel to you." And oh boy, ARE there questions of gender. Why is blue NOT considered a feminine color? Is that a good thing, a bad thing? In 3 minutes of artful poetry, Mika manages to wrap up sadness, love, joy, pain, the feminine that exists within the masculine and the masculine that exists within the feminine, in the simple color of blue and then, in one lyric, validates it all. And on a much simpler and more obvious note, this is in fact all a philosophic musing on the symbolic meaning of the color we see Julian wearing almost all the time (when he's not in uniform, almost all his civvies are also shades of blue.) I feel like this is one of those songs that's hard to analyze because it does what music and poetry does best - communicate something that cannot be communicated any other way. With these broad themes of loving others around the things they can't love about themselves, you can decide for yourself if this one is coming FROM Julian or directed AT him, either works. I find myself struggling for exactly the words to explain this one, but listen to it; you'll understand.
Little Dark Age - MGMT Another choice with no obvious lyrical relevance, but the tonal fit was just too good to pass up. The vibes pass.
The City - The 1975 This song is one of several present because it leans on medical symbolism to get its point across, though I would be lying if I said I fully understood what that point was. But the entire second verse, apparently about the song's subject suffering from some kind of illness and reassuring him that the next one's the M.D./You'll be feeling just fine, seems somehow to transmit the discomfort of illness directly to the listener. I don't know how or why, but the effectiveness of the empathy the second half of this song elicits, in me at least, puts it squarely in the "odd medical vibes" category.
Surgery - Two Door Cinema Club THIS is the song that inspired this whole playlist, mostly because of its title and general vibe. Another example (of many) of medical/anatomical references in this album (another of the songs is called Fever, etc), this song just feels like Julian to me.
The Other Side Of Paradise - Glass Animals I really like Glass Animals. That is probably becoming obvious. Aside from its delightfully cohesive vibes, this song opens with what's simultaneously the slyest and most brazen gay lyric I have heard on the radio recently, as the male singer says When I was young and stupid my love left to be a rock and roll star/HE told me... The song seems to be about a man whose male lover left him in pursuit of fame and fortune, and eventually ends up with a woman, leaving the singer behind. It's got simultaneously subtle and obvious gay themes, it's got confused love affairs, it's got so much bisexual energy. I cannot think of anything that could be more Julian.
Sit Next To Me - Foster The People Kind of like Sweater Weather, this whole song is built around a rather cute and sweet "sit next to me," and you can't help but feel a bit warm and cozy when you listen to it. I think it pairs with sweater weather well, and slides in with the rest of the picks very nicely.
Nothing Better - The Postal Service (the original band of the lead singer of Death Cab For Cutie) Another example of heavy surgical symbolism, the very first lyric of this song is Will someone please call a surgeon. This is actually a duet, and the singers speak of their real hearts to represent their emotional ones. Something about Your heart won't heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures always gets me and always will. And it vibes good. It vibes so, so good.
&Run - Sir Sly Sir Sly's &Run is my favorite song for driving too fast. It does an amazing job of musical onomatopoeia, talking about running while making you want to run. It's a song about running out of plans and running as far as you can instead, which is all very "I'm illegal by definition so I went to the farthest possible reaches of space." And like everything else here, it just feels good. It's also one of the only highlights here that I can actually see Julian listening to.
Cosmic Love - Florence and the Machine It's no coincidence that it seems like most of us who are invested in Julian Bashir are some flavor of genderqueer, be it trans, nonbinary, questioning, or something else entirely - the man's got a Gender with a capital G, and there's a whole lot going on in there. Between the words that were written for him on the page, and the words that were actually spoken, and the way he carries himself, Julian always seems caught between the white, western, and frequently toxic masculinity that the writers often seemed to want to imbue him with, and the very different, racially and culturally distinct masculinity Sid actually brought. But there's an undeniable element of the feminine in Julian too, at least by a traditional definition. The presence of this part of him at all, much less the fact that, in-universe, it's the more traditionally "feminine" parts of himself - the caregiving and nurturing aspects - that Julian seems proudest of or to like most about himself, is a large part of what makes his character so interesting, at least to me. So there was no way I was getting out of this without acknowledging that somehow, and I can't think of a better way to acknowledge a complicated relationship with the feminine side of one's own gender than with this world's own Celtic divine feminine, Florence Welch. I can't think of any better artist, at least that I know of, to represent femininity as a nonspecific ethereal goddess-concept. I basically spun the wheel of Florence here, as anything would have worked, but Cosmic Love felt very appropriate for a character who does in fact live in space. There could even be some Garashir in here, I think.
Dream Sweet In Sea Major - ミラクルミュージカル, or Miracle Musical, a sister act made up of members of Tally Hall I also couldn't leave off without acknowledging Julian's affection for classic lounge music, especially since it's the only thing about his taste in music that we actually know. But instead of tacking on some rat pack, instead I'm polishing this off with the incredibly chaotic and somehow also perfectly cohesive and calm Dream Sweet in Sea Major. It's got all of the vibes of a lounge singer but gone completely off the rails, which just seems perfect somehow. And it's also a very nice feeling to be left with, so it seems only right to put it at the end.
and if you've read all of this, I love you. Y'all didn't know I was this into music did you. but I am. oh boy. I AM.
Here's my Spotify wrapped and also a PSA
I need to start with some weird backstory. I hate Dream and the dsmp and actively avoid and ignore that content. I don't mind seeing nice fanart and there's nothing wrong with liking it, I just have bad associations from my ex so I'd rather avoid it personally. I do watch Wilbur Soot's videos but don't regularly listen to his music. This information will be important later on.
Spotify wrapped 2021
Okay makes sense so far, The Beatles threw me off and I blame @al-arts for that. He's also why Elton John is my new favorite and heartrob.
Lemon Demon and Tally Hall are just always bangers, and remind me of Oingo Boingo on hallucinogenics. I also mostly have @turing-tested to thank for those 🤜 thanks bro
I was obsessed with Mother Mother, still am. I'm actually going to their Arizona concert in January, 2022. One of my favorite playlists is just all their songs on Spotify and I can sing along to every one.
My eyes BULGED a bit at 70,000 minutes but we'll get to that. Seriously though, Mother Mother.
Out of 1,054 they were my favorite BY FAR. And it seems I was theirs too! Top .005%?? I was thinking, that's gotta be like 10 people right..? No. No it's more like 35,000, still though!
I also listened to A LOT of them.. actually I listened to A LOT of music in general.
20,000 minutes of Mother Mother... That's 13.4 DAYS of Mother Mother.
70 thousand minutes in total...
42.... Days... I am mentally ill
Then it got weird....
Listen, no matter who you are or what side you are on I know what you are thinking when you see that image. And we are gonna talk about the giant ELEPHANT in the room... Last
#1 Indie Pop - yea, Elton John, Some Mother Mother, Lil Nas X, ect
#2 Modern Alternative Rock - Most Mother Mother and a ton of skilled smaller artists.
#4 Steampunk?? Huh?? Well I looked up Spotify's playlist for the genre and... Yea, This FUCKS. I still can't explain it, I understand it but.. yea, no, I can't explain it.
#5 Broadway - I know it's an acquired taste, but seriously I don't care who you are go listen to Hadestown. Right now seriously. I listened to a lot of that this year, also the Jekll and Hyde musical, fantastic piece of male Opera and an interesting take on the story (though not totally loyal to the original) and of course I listened to a lot of Phantom of The Opera, my grandma use to listen to and watch it with me, I sing Opera now because of her :)
And now the PSA we've all been waiting for..
#3 Dream SMP??? What?? What does that even mean? and how is that a genre? and most importantly?
WHY IS IT IN MY TOP 5? WHY IS A FANDOM I ACTIVELY AVOID, A "GENRE" IN (MY) SPOTIFY WRAPPED? WTF???
That was my first thought, then I calmed myself down, there had to be a rational explanation. I like Wilbur but not his music, only a few songs a WHILE ago... But... No, it still didn't make sense.
So I sent it to the group chat, low and behold two other people also had it in their top 5, with no idea what it meant, one of which also didn't like dream.
So I put on my detective cap and... Guys....
Okay so Spotify has two genre related features you should know about.
It allows any song to classify as multiple genres, which makes sense, most songs could be more than one genre.
It also allows new genres to be created, which also makes sense! Genres are created and songs are reclassified all the time.
The problem occured when somehow, someone, submitted and was approved for a genre called 'Dream SMP'
That genre includes these 100 songs.
Listen, I understand having fandom centric spaces and art but this could have been a playlist, it shouldn't be a genre.
Most of the songs on there are just general shippy songs or indie rock, nothing on the playlist is explicitly about dsmp.
The only things that would 'fit' under a genre like that is fan songs, and Wilbur Soot's music if he agreed to that.
Thanks for coming to my PSA, Hydrate, relax your shoulder and jaw, take your meds, are you forgetting about your laundry?
Also stream Business Man by Mother Mother on Spotify and please use the discover weekly function, it's so useful.
Got any good music recommendations? I'm always hungry for new music!
lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Japanese rock/pop, so if you wanted more English stuff I’m sorry. I’ll get the English stuff out of the way first though
here’s some youtube links to artists and songs that I’ve been listening to lately or just remembered I love:
Tally Hall Early 2000′s wackiness which I hold dearly. Unfortunately they only have 2 albums, but I absolutely love every song on the first album (EVERY SONG SLAPS AND CHEERS ME UP) and I have a few faves on their second. Rob Cantor (Actual Cannibal Shia LeBeouf dude, yes him) is in this band.
1st Album: Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum Just listen to the entire album. It’s just so good.
2nd Album: Good & Evil - Never Meant To Know - You And Me - Cannibal - Turn The Lights Off
Miracle Musical Basically the same guys from Tally Hall so yeah it’s still weird but GOOD.
Hawaii Part II - Full Album - The Mind Electric - Labyrinth - Isle Unto Thyself - Dream Sweet In Sea Major
Kishi Bashi A lot of his music involves using a loop pedal, since he initially started off w just him, his violin, and loop pedals. Due to incorporating loop pedals in most of his work it takes a long build up. Not sure how to describe his sound other than ethereal melancholy folksy pop?
Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It! Say Yeah Honeybody M’Lover Bright Whites Manchester This Must Be The Place (cover) 1 - (Studio version) This Must Be The Place (cover) 2 - Album Audio (bc I like both versions)
Austin Weber I like to listen to his stuff when I’m kinda just in a depressed lying in bed/on the floor w only the moon as my companion reaching out to me through the cracks of my blinds kinda mood, you know? W extended imperfect vocal runs and reverberating guitar solos sometimes w increasing cymbal smashes before the song ends? Yeah that kinda vibe, although he has some nice weird bops too
I Don’t Want To Miss You (Like I Do) Love Songs For No One Using The Internet For French Goodbye (Balcony Version) Moving On THIS MAN FLEW TO JAPAN TO SING ABBA IN A BIG COLD RIVER - Mamma Mia (cover) (the backstory for this is that he and his long term girlfriend were planning to take a trip to Japan, but she told him that she had been cheating on him so he dumped her and he took his dad instead who filmed the video. What a champ.) My Friend Asleep On The Couch
Phum Viphurit Sorta happy dissociating chill vibes
Lover Boy (this song helped me during uni) Long Gone (also helped me during uni)
Half.Alive I love their music videos. Makes me appreciate interpretive dance a lot more. At first a lot of people were calling them knock-off Twenty-One Pilots, but idc bc they sound good
I Still Feel Alive (groovy and helped me during uni. LIGHTING, CHOREOGRAPHY, AND COSTUMING DUDE) Aawake At Night (good lying down depressed w a enough rock to signal me to cry if I need it song) The Fall (^ refer to above annotation) Arrow Runaway (the story in the music video makes me fEEL) Will Joseph Cook Pop. Yes plenty of fans in the comments have joked asking if he will cook. No he won’t.
Girls Like Me (helped me get through uni too) The Dragon (political song. Real gen z and millennial mood) Take Me Dancing (music video has me office job dreaming even though I know I’d probably hate it)
SIAMES Indie pop. Love their music videos and inspires me to continue thinking about animation.
The Wolf (This music video helped me get through uni. Had a crying breakdown in a park to this song on repeat. Not really appropriate for a breakdown though?) Summer Nights
OKAY NOW THE JAPANESE STUFF
Eve J-rock. I love their music videos. Inspired me to actually draw some hands and feet studies
As You Like It We’re Still Underground Dramaturgy The Secret About That Girl Snow Leo
Yorushika J-rock. Deals w depression and suicide themes.
Say It - About someone whose friend committed suicide and is reminiscing and reflecting on how they know they’ll never see their friend again, finding it hard to accept it, and how maybe if they had paid more attention they could've seen the signs and prevented it, asking their friend to “say it” more clearly. Incredibly depressing but I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH Semi-transparent Boy
Bradio FUNK! GLITTERY AND TACKY PATTERNED SUITS! GREAT AFRO! INFECTIOUS SMILES! HECK YEAH DUDE!
Flyers Golden Liar Makkana Car Chaise (Bright Red Car Chase) Overnight Superstar 幸せのシャナナ Shiawaseno Shanana (Shanana of Happiness) O.TE.A.GE.DA! (Basically throwing your hands up in frustration like “Whatever! I give up!” and honestly MOOD)
Frederick J-rock. Repetitive and catchy.
Only Wonder (had this on repeat so much I’m sure my siblings hated me) Oddloop Rererepeat Owarase Night (Basically means Finish Night. He says a lot of stuff about needing to finish something NOW, so it’s kinda like this is the last night to finish stuff)
Asian Kung-Fu Generation J-rock. Love the instrumentals. Also the album art? Gorgeous.
Re: Re: A Flower Named You (ABSOLUTE BANGER)
OKAY NOW FOR INDIVIDUAL SONGS
Medaka no Mita Niji - Kozue Takada (The Rainbow That The Kilifish Saw) (I have cried to this but also I’m an emotional mess so take that as you will???) インコ / 高田梢枝 - Inko by Takada Kozue (HAVE DEFINITELY CRIED TO THIS) Shissou - Last Alliance (Sprint) (Yes this is the credit song for Ouran High School Host Club. The opening guitar riff gets me every time. I’m nostalgic. Sue me.) Crying For Rain - Minami (GIVES ME SERIOUS YUI VIBES WHICH I LOVE) Yellow - Yoh Kamiyama (I love the art style and the way they animate hands. This music video and Eve music videos are what made me inspired to draw hand sketchdumps)
I don’t remember what time I started to answer this but it is now 1:40 am now and I hope you give some of these songs and/or artists a shot. Hope I helped you find something new!
#music#answered ask#answered anon#anon#I spent like at least 3 hours on this and my right eye is hurting from staring at the screen#thanks for letting me share some music#I know I don't talk much about my music tastes (mostly bc I tend to listen to the same stuff I know over and over again but youtube has bee#I ended up putting more English artists than I originally intended bc I was worried you wouldn't care about my jrockpop tastes#originally I was going to just leave it at Tally Hall Miracle Musical Kishibashi and maybe Austin Weber#hope you like some of the music I've been listening to!#also please let me know if you do!#validate my music tastes please lol#HONORABLE MENTION: OK GO#ALL THEIR MUSIC AND MUSIC VIDEOS DUDE#LOVE THEM
Tell me about your top 5 OC’s
Thank you for asking! ^_^ It’s super long, with pictures included so I’m keeping it under this read under! It was super tough just choosing 5.
Beyhana
Night Blood Elf Demon hunter
Bio:
Neyhana Beyhana Felmoon was one of my first RP characters on WoW. My first character to come to WRA after I migrated from Aggramar. Her backstory grew naturally as I learned more about WoW lore and the game itself. She’s an old Kald-cough-I mean Sin’dorei whose mostly retired after the defeat of the Legion. Once alliances were reestablished, she moved to Boralus and bought a small cafe with her adopted human son Leon. She took to a less action paced lifestyle because it gave her more time to be with her son, and should she ever die, due to demon possession or horde attacks. She hopes that having the cafe around would at least be something Leon could use to keep himself in honest work without having to go through the hardships of war that she once did.
Hobbies:
Walking the harbor of Boralus with Leon.
Trying to learn new recipes that are easy enough to be made blind.
Listening to Leon read her stories.
Top Spotify Artists/Songs:
1. Myself by Bazzi
2. Defying Gravity by Wicked
3. When You Were Young by The Killers
4. Ugly Heart by G.R.L.
Belnet
Bloodborne Elf Adventurer
Bio:
Pelnet was the first horde character I really found myself in a groove with. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a nelf belf slut or just because it was my first time trying a fury warrior. I found myself really getting immersed in his character, despite my lamination over the lack of Nightborne themed weapons and plate armor. The lack there of, sort of influencing his more worldly nature of trying out other culture’s weapons and armor. Sidenote, that’s not his current RP gear, just my current questing gear that I have him in and I think looks pretty a’ight.
Belnet is a wandering sword for hire. Since the revolution in Suramar, he finds his pleasure in traveling the new world and enjoying all of the new cultures, foods, and thrills that have come about during his time in Shiny Bubble Isolation(SBI). Currently, he hangs around the wealthy Troll capital of Zuldazar, finding good money in the few skills he has. For as we all know, Gonk wants heads.
During his time in SBI, Belnet was a beat cop of sorts. A guard who spent most his years stopping minor crime. But once the revolution came into full swing is when things got complicated. Shamed with the things that the Old Regime ordered of him and his comrades during the revolution, he now keeps himself in self-imposed exile. Not yet willing to go back to Suramar and deal with the ghosts that still haunt him.
Hobbies: (I’m not doing a normal numbered list anymore, tumblr is a broken website and it fucks up my formatting every time i click the list button.)
1. Going to new restaurants/bars after a good pay day.
2. Loves going to beaches and swimming in the warm waters.
3. Doing enchanted tattoos as a side hustle.
4. Finding free beds to share with interesting locals.
(could I have put that any weirder if I tried? No. I rolled a nat 1 in flirting, and now in my descriptions)
Top Spotify Artists/Songs: (He has my 2nd most favorite playlist so it was hard to choose)
1. Blasé by Ty Dolla $ign
2. False Kings by Poets of the Fall
3. I’m Born to Run by American Authors
4. Danser Dans Ma Chambre by Helix Jr
5. Lost in the Fire (feat The Weekend) by Gesaffelstein
6. Dancing in the Moonlight by Toploader (it’s the only artist spotify had for that song)
7. Caught in the Fire by Bazzi
Valthendias
Blood Elf Holy Knight
Bio:
The one character I didn’t have to poorly photoshop at all, Valthendias is the OC I have the weirdest relationship with. A belf Knight who, through some shitty situations, ends up guarding a group of Sin’dorei Mages as they explore the Void. During which he finds himself contaminated and suddenly a new type of elf, being exiled from his homelands for a second time. His wife refusing to talk with him fearing the damage to her station, his family exiling him for the risk of themselves being considered collaborates. He came to the Alliance alone and broken. Surround by those he once considered as the enemy and by Velfs who he feels betrayed him.
I have about 5 different class versions of Velf him, none of them seeming to stick. His past self being a pally worked out perfectly as I find I love playing Belf pally. But post-pally him?? I have a velf warrior, DK, Hunter but none seem to really be exactly how I envision an ex-Belf Knight being in my head. But despite not being able to find a stable class for his current self, I have the most love for him, he has the largest playlist on spotify out of all my OCs, the most written about his story past and present, and yet I hardly ever play him! Poor Valt.
Hobbies:
1. Learning how to care for his new Voidstalker friend.
2. Drinking.
3. Drinking.
4. Trying to find a stable job that doesn’t involve other Velfs.
5. Not thinking about the Void.
6. Trying to write poetry to get the thoughts out of his head.
7. Drinking.
Top Spotify Artists/Songs:
1. Born Again by Saint Motel (He has so much Saint Motel, so I’ll limit it to this one song of theirs)
2. Hurt by Oliver Tree
3. Nice Guy by Courtship
4. Don’t worry, You will by Lovelytheband
5. Turn the Lights off by Tally Hall
6. Get Used to It by Ricky Montgomery
7. It’s Alright by Mother Mother
8. Saint Bernard by Lincoln9. Breezeblocks by Alt-J
10. Goodbyes (feat. Young Thug) by Post Malone
Bydryn
Night Blood Elf Ex-Druid of the Talon, current Druid of the Ranch*
Bio:
Mydryn Earthclaw quickly became one of my favorite characters to RP, the calm, peaceful nature of being a druid in quiet isolation was a fun one to do, especially when I was leveling him through Pandaria and built up his little farm house.
Bydryn Bloodclaw’s main form became the bear form. Coming from my love of playing druid tank, and from that rush you get when you kill some shit geared prick ganking lowbies in leveling zone. Nothing beats the sound of the /claps of level 20s as you achieve victory lmao.
But in character he plays as a soft spoken defender who enjoys bear form mostly for how damn comfortable it is taking a nap in a cushy hill of grass as a bear. After the burning of Teldrassil, he currently finds himself trying to give aid to those in need in Stormwind, offering traditionally cooked meals or healing. If you’ve RPed in the streets of Stormwind of WRA, you could find him walking a route shouting about “FRESH SPICED BREAD! ROASTED KALDOREI FISH!”
Hobbies:
1. Cooking traditional Kaldorei Meals.
2. Managing his farm.
3. Spending hours wandering the forests, gathering herbs for tinctures.
4. Talking with and eating dinner at his good Draenai friend Siphyr (eyes emoji)
Top Spotify Artists/songs:
1. The Wider Sun by Jon Hopkins
2. A Gift of Thistle by James Horner
3. Healing Elves by Derek Fiechter
4. Moonshadow by Yusuf/ Cat stevens
5. Healing Chant by Heather Alexander
Bcazim
Goblin Boblin gangster
Bio:
Scazim while not my most fleshed out character by any means, Bcazim is on this list because i’ve had the most fun while Rping him.
A creepy, scummy, drug dealer in Silvermoon makes for some real interesting times lmao. Even if they try threatening him, trying to offer an Orc deathknight, or a group of Blood Knights some cheap blood thistle is the best RP ever if they play along.
Hobbies:
1. Selling Blood Thistle
2. Lying about his name
3. Trying to convince his friend Kyrus to hang out with him at all.
Top Spotify Artists/Songs:
1. Ispy (feat. Lil Yachty) by Kyle
2. King of the Clouds by Panic!
Honorable Mentions
Noalith - The Velf responsible for ruining Valthendias’ life who has #NoRegrets.
Duff - Disgraced Dwarf of few words.
Thylivour - I wanted to include to include her, my Nightborne Mage whom I love. But I suck ass at playing a mage, and i’ve already made this list too long.
